Not so much in operations or foreign policy, where national sovereignty still is the dominant factor dragging down progress, but so much more in technology and industry.    The establishment of the Directorate Defence and Space Industry (DEFIS) and the European Defence Fund (EDF) provided a firm basis, and the war in Ukraine is - unfortunately - a strong catalyser to speed up policy development and practical implementation. 1. From Internal to External Focus Ursula von der Leyen coined the term 'Geopolitical Commission' in the autumn of 2019. A global orientation for the Union seemed like a radical change. But it is, of course, a gross exaggeration to claim that the Union only looked inward before; all internal issues inherently have an external dimension.

  Eurodefense Nederland doet aanbevelingen voor de verkiezingsprogramma's ter voorbereiding op de Tweede Kamerverkiezingen in november 2023. Het uitgangspunt van deze aanbevelingen is het als gevolg van de oorlog in Oekraïne snel groeiende belang van effectieve Europese samenwerking. Daarbij moet de Nederlandse Defensie zo snel mogelijk op orde worden gebracht. Dat vergt forse inspanningen en investeringen!

Eurodefense Nederland roept politieke partijen op om werk te maken van de benodigde institutionele stappen om Europa en daarmee ook Nederland veiliger en daadkrachtiger te maken. Daartoe heeft EDNL de volgende aanbevelingen opgesteld: 

  Eurodefense  breidt samenwerking met  KIVI Defensie en Veiligheid uit De afdeling Defensie en Veiligheid van het Koninklijk Instituut van Ingenieurs (KIVI DV) heeft haar samenwerking met Eurodefense Nederland (EDNL) versterkt met deze cursus. De naam van de cursus wijzigt van “ Defensie voor Ingenieurs ” in “ KIVI Masterclass Defensie ”. De cursus geeft in zes collegedagen en acht werkbezoeken een totaaloverzicht en een netwerk in de hele sector. De onderwerpen variëren van zeer geavanceerde technologie, de inrichting en rol van de verschillende organisaties en politieke controle tot de aankoop van materieel, innovatie en logistieke aspecten. Tevens komt Defensie in relatie tot de industrie, Europa en de wereld aan bod. Door de samenwerking met EDNL wordt er een dagdeel over Europese samenwerking toegevoegd en als het kan een werkbezoek aan Brussel. Per 1 juli 2023 is KTZ bd Jan Wind door het bestuur benoemd tot voorzitter van Eurodefense Nederland. Jan Wind is oud marineofficier met veel ervaring met grote materieelprojecten en internationale materieel samenwerking. Hij is sinds 2013 actief bij Eurodefense Nederland en in deze rol opvolger van oud Minister van Defensie Wim van Eekelen en Drs. Ernst van Hoek. Naast zijn nieuwe rol bij Eurodefense Nederland is hij voorzitter van de afdeling Defensie en Veiligheid van het Koninklijk Instituut van Ingenieurs (KIVI) en president van de Federation of European Defence Technology Associations (EDTA). Ook is hij directeur van WISER Consultancy, een boutique bedrijf, gespecialiseerd in private financiering van materieel voor Defensie. 

  EWG 18 - 30 Strengthen European defence – some perspectives  30 March 2023 On 18 May 2022, the European Commission published a Communication analysing, at the request of the Council, deficits in defence investment and possible remedies to overcome them. This document clearly highlights the need for Europeans to better work together, especially at a time when military expenditures will increase sharply in response to the war in Ukraine and draws some perspectives.

Eurodefense Nederland en KIVI DV organiseren samen een seminar over actuele ontwikkelingen op het gebied van gemeenschappelijke Europese aankoop van Defensiematerieel (Common Procurement). Het evenement vindt plaats op 12 mei, van 14:00 tot 17:00 in de grote zaal van het KIVI gebouw (Prinsessegracht 23, Den Haag).
