The European Commission formally launches the European Defence Fund (EDF)

The European Commission has formally launched the €8 billion European Defence Fund (EDF), a new instrument designed to co-finance collaborative defence research and development projects across the bloc. (Euractiv News)

Thierry Breton, Commissioner for Internal Market, said: “In 2021, the European Defence Fund is coming to life. With the EU's first-ever dedicated defence programme, European cooperation in defence will become the norm. Public authorities will spend better together, and companies - big or small - from all Member States will benefit, resulting in more integrated European defence industrial value chains. In 2021 alone, the EDF will finance up to EUR 1.2bn in high-end defence capability projects such as the next generation of aircraft fighters, tanks or ships, as well as critical defence technologies such as military cloud, AI, semiconductors, space, cyber or medical counter measures.”

Hybrid seminar on European policies for Artificial Intelligence in Defence

  Eurodefense Netherlands and the Royal Netherlands Society of Engineers  organise an  international seminar titled " European Policies for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Defence ". The seminar will take place in hybrid form on May 24th at KIVI in The Hague.  Follow this link to register . Initiatiefnota Europese Munitieproductie van Kamerleden Boswijk en Tuinman

  Eurodefense Nederland en de werkgroep Politiek en Defensietechniek van het Koninklijk Instituut van Ingenieurs zijn verheugd met deze op 19 februari 2024 door de Kamerleden Tuinman en Boswijk aan de Tweede Kamer aangeboden initiatiefnota . Dit initiatief om de munitieproductie te versnellen en mogelijk ook in Nederland munitieproductie weer serieus ter hand te nemen is u iterst belangrijk om de leveringen aan Oekraïne mogelijk te maken en de eigen oorlogsvoorraden op peil te brengen.  Door de geopolitieke ontwikkelingen is zo'n initiatief wellicht ook op diverse andere terreinen van militaire productie noodzakelijk.  De initiatiefnota pleit deels voor versnelde munitieproductie in elders in Europa. Wij vragen ons af of de invloed vanuit Defensie en de Tweede Kamer significant is, waar het gaat om productie buiten Nederland. Daar zou de Europese Commissie of de Europese Raad d.m.v.  EDA misschien invloed op kunnen uitoefenen. Het primaat ligt daarbij immers in de landen waar dez
