Eurodefense Nederland nieuws

Over the past two years a working group comprising EDTA and Eurodefense members developed  "Recommendations on Energy, Security and Defence"  for the European Union and national MoDs. The resulting report was sent to the presidents of the European Commission, Council and Parliament on 15 February 2023.

Author: Iric van Doorn, Vice President Eurodefense Netherlands Eurodefense is of the opinion that this paper is an excellent analysis of the presently available options for specialisation for the Netherlands Ministry of Defense. It also explains the relevant definitions, the terminology, and the various forms of specialisation within NATO and the EU. Its “Conclusions and options” for the Government of The Netherlands are realistic and mainly based on ongoing projects and programs. Nevertheless, Eurodefense has comments and suggestions.

During this seminar views from the Netherlands on future European Defence cooperation were presented and discussed with an international audience. Presidents and board members of the 15   Eurodefense   associations participated as part of their 3 day conference. Members of KIVI Defence and Security and Eurodefense Nederland were also welcome to participate.

Eurodefense Position Paper  A Strategic Compass: what’s next?  Introduction  This draft working document of Eurodefense Working Group 27B has been completed before and during the war in Ukraine.   De Oekraïnecrisis als vuurdoop voor een daadkrachtige en veilige Europese Unie  Als gevolg van de Russisch-Oekraïense oorlog is de belangstelling voor Nederlandse en Europese  veiligheid drastisch toegenomen. In veel landen (waaronder Nederland) leidt dit tot verhoogde  defensie-uitgaven. Dit is een stap in de goede richting maar Eurodefense Nederland is van mening  dat een daadkrachtige behartiging van Nederlandse belangen vraagt om meer verregaande  politieke keuzes. De basis van deze redenatie wordt weergalmd in het AIV 'Briefadvies 35: Keuzes   voor de krijgsmacht' welke wederom bevestigd dat ‘’geen enkel Europees land kan nog solitair  opereren’’. Deze constatering leidde in de Defensievisie 2035 van november 2020 ook al tot het  voornemen tot taakspecialisatie en samenwerking met Europese bondgenoten als België,  Duitsland en in toenemende mate ook Frankrijk.
